Validating agent-based behavioral geography

Like all models, agent-based simulations are used to abstract from a more complicated reality, or to develop synthetic laboratories for exploring systems that are not amenable to investigation on the ground. Unlike most models, however, agent-based simulations allow for an unprecedented degree of detail to be introduced to a simulation. This makes it difficult to assess the fit of simulations to the real-world, to plans, to policies, or to theories.
We are developing a set of methods, and related tools, for validating agent-based models of behavioral geography, based on the spatio-temporal properties of information flow in models of complex systems, and of the spacing and timing of agent behavior in simulation. This builds on our efforts to couple agent-based models and space-time GIS, and related projects to examine ways to accelerate agent-based computation.

A Extended Web Feature Service Based Web 3D GIS Architecture

Lacking of standard interpretable platform can be a significant reason to limit the development of 3D GIS, the same situation exist in web 3D GIS. This paper will investigate the possibilities to public a functional 3D geo Web services platform using OGC specifications for the Web feature service. To fulfill the requirement of Web feature service and to improve the interoperability of data, we choose a new data modal language - CityGML which is implemented as an application schema for the geography markup language 3 (GML3) to build 3D geo-data. Then present a web 3D GIS architecture based on Web feature service, and give out the key techniques and implementation method of this architecture, finally carry out a prototype environment, to prove the architecture can adequate for access to 3D geo-data.

A Geo-Information Data Transmission Method in Socket-Based Mobile Device

This paper studies on a client / server wireless network model of hand-held mobile devices for land surveying and mapping industry, and accesses the credibility and methods of data communication between different programs through multi-threaded and socket. Key issues and technologies are discussed through practice, that wireless internet facilitate GIS data transfer, and multi-threaded applications and WINSOCK promote the communication between application programs, respectively, the client and server programming.

Analysis of remotely sensed images on the Grid platform from mobile handheld devices - a trial

With the tremendous advances in hand-held computing and communication capabilities, rapid proliferation of mobile computing environments, and decreasing device costs, we are seeing a growth in mobile e-Geoscience in various consumer and business markets. The trend is also picking up in large enterprises where dependency on mobile e-business environments has become routine for thousands of employees conducting daily business activities. Grid is a new technology. With corresponding middleware it can give strong computing power. We mainly discuss our experience on the middleware development and architecture used in remote sensing data analysis using Mobile handheld devices. It clearly shows that the possibilities of using Grid computing technology to real-time update spatial databases regularly by means of telecommunications systems in order to support problem solving and decision-making at any time and any place.

Telecommunication modeling by integration of geophysical and geospatial information

Both geophysical and geospatial data provide important information in the establishment of the optimal telecommunication systems especially in the mobile telecommunication environment. The objective of this study is to utilize geophysical properties and geospatial information in the analysis of the telecommunication environment through point-to-point wave propagation modeling. Geophysical properties associated with wave propagation parameters of the Earth surface were analyzed based on land classification using fused imagery of Landsat ETM+ and Ikonos images. Three-dimensional geospatial information was obtained by processing stereo aerial images. The results show that the accurate geospatial information and geophysical property of the surface improve the prediction of receiving power of the receivers located near corners of the buildings where diffractions occur. The wave propagation model developed from accurate telecommunication environment could be applied to cell planning.
